Pinayun-an, Mabinay: A Walk in the Clouds

***Location: Pinayun-an, Bato, Mabinay, Negros oriental, Philippines

Pinayun-an is a sitio of baranggay bato. It is about 10 kms from the mabinay city proper. It is surrounded with hills and embellished with a wonderful view of sugar cane plantations and diverse greenfields. It is an awesome destination for those wanting to appreciate nature and immerse with the people in the sitio.
Hikers and runners frequent the place as it provides challenging and picturesque trails.

***
Since we spent our night at Bais, from there we drove to Mabinay at 4:45 am and arrived at the center at around 5:30.
We started our trek at exactly 6:15 and descended from the Hill at around 7:30 (It was already very hot and we had to go home before lunch.)
Our climb was just around 30 minutes. If you have bad knees and you walk slow then of course your time would be longer (lol).
Pinayun-an village is still far from where we were but we only needed to climb one hill to get that majestic "sea of cloud" view.

Reminder:
You have to be there early because you might not be able to see and even feel the clouds embracing your soul.
The locals told us that sometimes, the clouds disappear as early as 7 in the morning depending on the wind speed and generally the weather.
So, better check weather forecast before deciding to go there.
Moreover, please never leave your trash behind and respect your surroundings

***How to get here:

From Dumaguete City Philippines
Ride a bus or private transpo to Mabinay.
If you opt for the bus, you can stop at the city proper and go to the habal-habal terminal. You can let the drivers take you to Baranggay Bato baranggay hall. Do not let the drivers haggle for you since they overprice. (They said they could take us closer to the peak at P400 each. We were almost "Budol budolled") The standard rate is just 15 pesos. However, if you want to have them take you nearer to the hill of the peak they might charge you higher ( but definitely not 400) since it is farther from the cemented roads and more challenging for them.
If you are using your own ride, you can go straight to Bato. Take the road to Kabankalan and turn right after (not sure how many kms) lol. Just ask around to be sure. You can park at the Baranggay hall. Make sure to befriend some locals because you need them for directions.

  1. Hi! I'd just want to ask, does the area have a camping site? Thank you!

    1. I doubt the owner of the land (it is a private land) allows campers on the site yet.. However, there is a flat area there where you can pitch your tent at your own risk. That flat part is also where villagers pass by to go down the hill.

So far (based on FB friends posts who also went there) no body camped and all of them opted for the dawn trek. Some went there as early as 2 am.

      I hope this helps :)
